The AIDS pandemic is one of the most devastating humanitarian disasters of our time, leaving a generation of children in jeopardy. AIDS destabilizes families and entire societies, leaving children without the care and support necessary to grow up, survive, and thrive.
The United Nations estimates that every 14 seconds, somewhere in the world, another child is orphaned by HIV/AIDS. This means that each day over 6,000 children join the 15 million children worldwide who have already lost one or both parents to this disease.

Think of this way...if these 15 million children were to link hands, they would stretch halfway around the world. This number is expected to grow to more than 20 million in the next few years. Of the 15 million AIDS orphans, 12 million of them live in sub-Saharan Africa.

Our approach is a comprehensive one, encompassing the daily needs of children as well as the future growth and support required to sustain them and their community at large. While handouts are helpful, our goal is nothing less than the transformation of a generation. Hoops of Hope All-Stars is partnering with World Vision to provide Water, Health Care, Education, and Economic Development to communities in need with-in sub-Saharan Africa.
Every 21 seconds, a child dies from a water-related illness. No other humanitarian intervention produces a more dramatic effect on life than access to clean water. Women and children will no longer walk up to 10 miles a day to get water. People with HIV will live stronger, longer lives. Clean water is foundational to all aspects of development and when a community gains access to clean water, its child mortality rate drops by half.
Today, more than 26,000 children under age 5 will die from preventable or treatable causes. The good news - there are cures for many of the conditions these children suffer from. They just need the necessary medication, treatment or immunization. For rural families in Africa, the nearest health care may be 100 miles away - on foot.
Construction of a health clinic makes health care easily accessible to as many as 8,000 children and adults. Providing top-quality medication, equipment and supplies will ultimately save lives.
Studies show that the best way to prevent the spread of AIDS is through increased education. Education also provides children opportunities to escape poverty, gain a voice in the community, and experience a better quality of life. Building a school will equip the next generation in these communities with just such an education.
The school build project includes qualified teachers and basic supplies like pens, paper and pencils for the students.
A significant percentage of people in these communities live in grinding poverty. To break out of poverty, these enterprising poor require the same resources as every determined entrepreneur - access to capital and practical training.
Microfinance (provision of financial services to poor entrepreneurs) is a highly successful tool implemented across the globe to alleviate poverty. These small loans provide the working capital needed to start or grow a variety of businesses within these communities including: poultry farms, mechanic and auto-body shops, soap production, greenhouse agriculture, sewing workshops, hair salons, mini markets and more. With these programs the entrepreneurial poor have an opportunity to move from dependence on aid to sustainability.
